Elise Sobo – San Diego State University
What is a South Bath? Guidelines For Getting a Good One
Elisa (EJ) Sobo, PhD, is a professor of anthropology at San Diego State University. Past President of the Society for Medical Anthropology, Sobo has published thirteen books and numerous articles on topics ranging from maternal and child health to land acknowledgments, generative AI in higher education, and civilian attempts to storm Area 51. Her work on vaccination has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered, and in the New York Times, Washington Post, and other news outlets.

Tuesday
Shuang-Ye Wu – University of Dayton
Global Warming and Weather Disasters
Wu is a climate scientist who uses climate models to project future climate change and its potential impacts on the hydrological cycle, including precipitation, extreme storms and flood risks. She also works with researchers in ice core science and stable isotope geochemistry to investigate climate and environmental change during the past 10,000 years. Wu received her doctorate from the University of Cambridge in 2000 where she studied environmental geography. She joined the University of Dayton’s Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences in 2004 after completing her post-doctoral research at Penn State University. She has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and received close to $2 million in external funding for her research. Wu teaches courses mainly in the field of climate change, environmental geosciences and Geographical Information Systems.

Dorian Rhea Debussy – The Ohio State University
LGBTQ+ Workers Want More Than Pinkwashing
Dorian Rhea Debussy, Ph.D. (she/her) is the inaugural Director of External Affairs at Equitas Health, which is one of the largest LGBTQ+ and HIV/AIDS serving healthcare organizations in the country. Rhea also currently serves as a Lecturer of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at The Ohio State University. Prior to joining Equitas Health in June 2022, Rhea jointly served as the Associate Director for the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and a Visiting Assistant Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at Kenyon College. Her forthcoming book project is currently under contract with Columbia University Press.

James Dawes – Macalester College
Virtue and Video Games
James Dawes teaches narrative across the disciplines. His areas of research expertise include human rights, artificial intelligence, and the ethics of storytelling in fields ranging from creative writing to video game design. He is the author of several books, including Evil Men, winner of the International Human Rights Book Award, and That the World May Know: Bearing Witness to Atrocity, Independent Publisher Book Award Finalist. He has written for or appeared as the feature guest on media outlets ranging from National Public Radio, the BBC, and Bulgarian National Radio to the Boston Globe, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and CNN.com. He was a Junior Fellow at the Society of Fellows, Harvard University. He received his Ph.D. in English Literature from Harvard University and his M. Phil. from Cambridge University.
