Laura Jelliffe-Pawlowski – New York University
Preterm Births on the Rise
Dr. Laura Jelliffe-Pawlowski is a Professor of Epidemiology and Precision Health at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing and an Emeritus Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the UCSF School of Medicine. She is the Founder and Lead of the International HOPE Research Consortium and Primary Investigator of the HOPE, PROMPT, and THRIVE studies. Her research focuses on identifying causes and interventions for preterm birth and adverse pregnancy outcomes with a focus on developing new tools, tests, and technologies with global applications. She has received funding from the NIH, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the March of Dimes, and UCSF’s California Preterm Birth Initiative, among others. With over 150 scientific papers and patents for predictive blood tests and algorithms, her work has been featured in the New York Times, The Atlantic, WIRED, CNN, NPR, BBC, and more. In 2023 she was recognized by Forbes on their 50 over 50 list of women leaders in innovation.

Joseph Cimpain – New York University
Progress and Setbacks in the STEM Gender Gap
Joseph Cimpian is Professor of Economics and Education Policy at New York University’s Steinhardt and Wagner Schools. His research focuses on understanding and addressing social and educational inequities, with particular emphasis on gender gaps in STEM fields, the effects of English learner reclassification policies, and educational experiences of LGBTQ+ youth. His work has appeared in leading journals including Science, and has been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, and NPR. Using large-scale data analysis and innovative statistical methods, Dr. Cimpian’s research identifies patterns of inequality and evaluates potential policy solutions. His current work examines how institutional environments affect gender representation in physics, engineering, and computer science across different types of universities.

Amanda Mauri – New York University
A Growing U.S. Mental Health Safety Net
Amanda Mauri is an Assistant Professor/Faculty Fellow at the New York University School of Global Public Health. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on assessing variations in access to community behavioral health care and crisis services. She is particularly interested in the implementation and impact of Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic initiatives, with a special focus on those related to Medicaid. Her scholarly work has appeared in Health Affairs, the Milbank Quarterly, and JAMA Health Forum. Amanda holds dual Ph.D. degrees in Health Policy and Political Science from the University of Michigan.

Sophie Arnold is PhD Candidate in Psychology at New York University. Her research investigates the early emerging beliefs and behaviors that contribute to real-world disparities like the gender wage gap. Her research has been published in top journals such as Psychological Science and the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General and funded by the National Science Foundation.

Olivia Pomerenk is a fifth-year graduate student at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at NYU, working towards a Ph.D. in mathematics after receiving a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from Caltech. Olivia is interested in the dynamics and interactions of fluids and solids.
