Alana Jaydel Fresno City College
2022: The Year of the Female Gubernatorial Candidate
Dr. Alana Jeydel (Ph.D., Political Science) teaches at Fresno City College. She has published two books and numerous refereed journal articles in the area of women and politics. Dr. William R. Wilkerson is a professor of political science at SUNY Oneonta. He studies American politics and law and courts.

Tuesday, September 20th
Zachary Neal – Michigan State University
More than One in Five Adults Do Not Want Children
Zachary Neal is an associate professor of psychology and global urban studies at Michigan State University, and serves as the editor of Global Networks, and Evidence & Policy. He is the author of four books and over 90 peer-reviewed journal articles. Together with Dr. Jennifer Watling Neal, they have been investigating the childfree community, focusing on identifying how many adults choose to be childfree, when they decide, and the positive and negative consequences of that decision. In addition to this work, he also studies neighborhood satisfaction and develops statistical models for understanding social networks.

Virtual Reality Can Boost Firms’ New Product Development
Dr. Sebastian Hohenberg is a marketing strategy researcher who strives to solve essential business problems related to organic growth and the digital transformation of business. For his research, Dr. Hohenberg collaborates with partners from industry and focuses on two specific areas: (1) marketing management and (2) sales steering. Dr. Hohenberg’s research has been published in the leading marketing outlets, such as the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Marketing Research, and the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science. In addition to his work in academia, Dr. Hohenberg has consulted various leading companies, mainly in the following industries: automotive, chemicals, building and construction, and manufacturing.

Thursday, September 22nd
Dave Smallen – Metropolitan State University
Social Connection Matters – and There Are Many Ways to Connect
Dave Smallen is a research psychologist and community faculty at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, MN. His work focuses on researching and communicating about how people cultivate connection and well-being in relationships, families, and community. He earned a PhD in Human Development and Family Studies from University of Wisconsin-Madison during which he conducted research as an affiliate of The Social Interaction Lab in the Department of Psychology at University of Minnesota. His research can be found in academic journals such as the Journal of Family Psychology and the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships.

Friday September 23rd
John Caskey – Swarthmore College
Concentrated Urban Poverty
John Caskey is the Joseph Wharton professor economics at Swarthmore College. He has a B.A. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from Stanford University. He teaches courses in financial economics and urban economics. His research focuses on financial institutions serving low-income U.S. households and community economic development.
