Dr. Marjan H. Ehsassi is a Berggruen Future of Democracy Fellow (non-resident) and Strategic Director of the Democratic Action Fund. A former litigator and governance practitioner, she is an expert in citizen participation, democratic innovations, and deliberation.

Sarah Seymour – Chiang Mai University
Solace and Saudade
Sarah Seymour is a fiction writer and essayist, and currently teaches at Chiang Mai University in Thailand. Her most recent publications include the essay “Solace and Saudade” (Aeon, July 2023) and her short story “Shooting Stars” (Within and Without Magazine, forthcoming fall issue 2023).

Insiya Hussain – University of Texas at Austin
Social Impact Framing Can Inhibit Job Candidates from Negotiating
Insiya Hussain is an Assistant Professor of Management at the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business. Her research focuses on understanding how employees can overcome the challenges of speaking up at work to share their ideas and opinions, advocate social issues, and negotiate for personal rewards. Insiya’s research has been published in leading academic journals including Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, and Journal of Applied Psychology. Her work has also been featured in practitioner outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Bloomberg, and Harvard Business Review. She is a member of the Editorial Review Board at Academy of Management Journal and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes. Prior to joining academia, Insiya worked at J.P. Morgan’s investment bank and as a Project Manager at technology companies. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Columbia University, and her Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from the University of Maryland.

Lisa Donovan – Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts
Studying the Arts and Deep Learning
Dr. Lisa Donovan is a professor in the Fine and Performing Arts Department at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Previously she served as Director of the Creative Arts in Learning Division at Lesley University. Lisa has broad experience working as an arts administrator and arts educator in a variety of arts organizations including Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Berkshire Opera Company, Barrington Stage Company, Boston University’s Theater, Visual Arts and Tanglewood Institutes and University of Massachusetts’ Department of Theater. She also served as Executive Director of the Massachusetts Alliance for Arts Education. Lisa has published widely on arts integration and rural arts education. This includes her work as co-editor/co-author of a five-book series on arts integration published by Shell Education, and her co-authored book Teacher as Curator, which explores the power of assessment and documentation in arts integrated work. Her rural research: Leveraging Change: Increasing Access to Arts Education in Rural Areas was featured by the National Endowment for the Arts. Lisa spearheaded several projects that foreground the use of the arts as a strategy for regional change—funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, National Department of Education, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.

Psychological Trauma and Its Impacts on Forensic Inpatient Obesity
Dr Joseph Davies is a psychologist and lecturer in applied psychology at Cardiff Metropolitan University in South Wales, and member of the International Association for Forensic Mental Health Services. His research focuses on physical health within forensic inpatient populations, particularly underlying psychological mechanisms implicated in obesity.
