Andrew Russell – SUNY Polytechnic Institute
The Heroes of the Digital Age
Andrew Russell is Officer-in-Charge at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, on leave from his position as Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at SUNY Poly. Russell is the author or co-author of several books, including Circuits, Packets, and Protocols: Entrepreneurs and Computer Communications, 1968-1988, published in 2022 by ACM Press.

Robert Edgell – SUNY Polytechnic Institute
Creative Challenges and University Reimagined
Dr. Edgell is a Professor of Technology Management in the College of Business at SUNY Polytechnic Institute where he received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Swiss Business School in Zurich and has delivered research papers and lectures at various institutions including Stanford University’s Law School and the University of St. Gallen. Previously, he was a professor at American University’s Kogod School of Business where he was named Outstanding Faculty. He has presented his scholarship, reviewed papers, and chaired sessions at the Academy of Management, the International Atlantic Economics Society, and the Academy of Creativity among others. His research further develops the sociotechnical theories and practices by which collectives assemble and mobilize to tackle society’s most pressing and intractable creative challenges, ranging from grand opportunities such as the commercialization of interplanetary space to wicked problems including intensifying climate change. He was a co-PI recipient, along with Dr. Daryl Lee, of a prestigious $100,000 National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), Humanities Connections grant (9.5% acceptance rate) for Reimagining Entrepreneurship: An Integrated Pathway for Creative and Ethical Venturing. Dr. Edgell received his PhD in international multicultural management (magna cum laude) from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. He holds an MBA from Columbia University’s Business School and degrees in Architecture from Kent State University’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design. Through Columbia’s Chazen Institute of International Business, he studied at Erasmus University’s Rotterdam School of Management in The Netherlands. He is a registered Architect and has studied at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.

Ryan Lizardi – SUNY Polytechnic Institute
Millennials, Your Nostalgia Window is Now!
Ryan Lizardi is Associate Professor of digital media and humanities at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. He focuses his research on media encouraged nostalgia, including his books Mediated Nostalgia (2014), Nostalgic Generations and Media (2017), and Subjective Experiences of Interactive Nostalgia (editor, 2019). His latest book, Existential Science Fiction (2022) connects this research into longing for the past to the big questions about our existence as human beings and the role media can play in contemplative answers.

Abolfazl Karimpour – SUNY Polytechnic Institute
Red-Light Running Behavior at Signalized Intersections
Dr. Karimpour is an Assistant Professor at the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute. Previously, he held positions as Manager and Assistant Research Professor at the University of Arizona’s Center for Applied Transportation Science. His research interests include Traffic Operation and Safety, Traffic Signal Optimization, Data Analytics, Public Transportation, and Smart Cities Transportation. He has published over 15 peer-reviewed research articles in various journals and presented his findings at over 20 national and international conferences. He is a Co-PI for numerous national, regional, and local transportation projects. Dr. Karimpour is an active member of TRB, ASCE, and ITE. He is a member of the TRB standing committee on Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing Applications (AED50). Also a young member of the Street and Highway Operations and an Associate member of the Transportation Safety of the American Society of Civil Engineers committees. Dr. Karimpour also serves as a panelist on NCHRP 17-100: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Big Data to Enhance Safety Analysis. He has e received several prestigious awards, inlcuidng ITE Western District outstanding graduate student award, Jenny L. Grote Student Leadership Award, and Southern Arizona ITE Hank Warner Scholarship.

Adam McLain – SUNY Polytechnic Institute
Nosy Hara Dwarf Lemurs
Dr. Adam T. McLain is an Associate Professor of Biology in the Department of Biology and Chemistry at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica, New York. He joined the faculty at SUNY Poly in 2015 after a postdoctoral research position in the Conservation Genetics Department at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. Dr. McLain received his Ph.D. in biology from Louisiana State University in 2013 and an M.A. in anthropology with a focus on primate genetics from Hunter College of the City University of New York in 2009. His research focuses on evolutionary biology, speciation and genetics in non-human primates, predominantly among lemurs, primates found only on the island of Madagascar. His current work outside the world of lemurs is related to the impact of DNA methylation and aging in mammals. Dr. McLain has also published research on mobile DNA elements in gorillas and gibbons and been part of a research consortium that sequenced the genomes of the golden lion tamarin and the Pallas’s cat, a species of central Asian wild cat. Dr. McLain is an active board member at the Utica Zoo and enjoys backpacking, camping and curling when not in the field or the lab.
