I am a cross-disciplinary researcher who has spent over two decades of researching a wide variety of personal wealth topics. I try to explain why some people become rich, others are poor and some move between these two states. I am currently synthesizing this research into a book that presents the results of my academic research and other wealth researchers in an accessible format.

TaLisa Carter – American University
Insider Status as a Researcher
TaLisa J. Carter, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Justice, Law & Criminology at American University, a non-resident fellow in Governance Studies at the Brookings Institute, an Affiliated Scholar at Urban Institute, and an Affiliate with the Center for Advancing Correctional Excellence! at George Mason University. Her research examines theoretical explanations of accountability in the criminal justice system, the role of identity in criminal justice professions, and the impact of colorism on criminal justice outcomes. Previously, she worked as a Deputy Corrections Officer in Savannah, GA where she supervised male and female residents with diverse classification statuses. Her work has been funded by the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health. Additionally, her work has been published in outlets including Race and Justice, Deviant Behavior, and Sociological Forum.

Robert Krueger – Worcester State University
Overcoming the Hubris Problem in Engineering for Development Projects
Robert Krueger is a human geographer whose scholarship and teaching focus on epistemic and institutional in community sustainable development projects in the global north and south. At WPI for 20 years, Krueger spent the first half of his career working on community-based research projects in environmental justice neighborhoods in Worcester, Massachusetts. In 2018, created the Development Design Lab (DDL) to support his work on economic, gender, environmental, and education concerns in Ghana and West Africa. Most recently, with his partners, Krueger became PI on US AID/BHA award that supports WASH, gender and youth empowerment, and community business development

Imposing Penalties Can Deter Rule Breakers – But the Timing Needs to Be Right
Laura Doering is an Assistant Professor of Strategic Management and an Assistant Professor of Sociology (by courtesy). As an economic sociologist, she examines how interactions and social psychological processes shape outcomes for households, organizations, and markets. Her research has been published in the American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, Sociology of Development, and Journal of Business Venturing. Professor Doering’s research and writing has appeared in The New York Times, BBC News, The Globe and Mail, Salon, and other outlets.

Joseph Comprix – Syracuse University
Are Male Analysts More Verbally Aggressive Than Female Analysts in Earnings Conference Calls
Joseph Comprix is a Professor of Accounting at Syracuse University. He has a B.S. from The Ohio State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Professor Comprix previously taught at Arizona State University and at the State University of New York at Buffalo before joining Syracuse University in 2008. He has served as the Chair of the Accounting Department at Syracuse University since 2013. He has been named the Outstanding Professor in the graduate program four times while at Syracuse, and in 2012, the University recognized him for excellence in graduate education. Prior to becoming an academic, Professor Comprix spent several years working as a staff accountant and accounting manager at Mead Corporation. Professor Comprix’s research has been published in journals such as the Journal of Accounting and Economics, The Accounting Review, Journal of Marketing, and Contemporary Accounting Research, the Journal of the American Taxation Association, and Accounting Horizons.
