Justin Yates – Northern Kentucky University
ADHD and Substance Abuse
Dr. Yates first taught at Northern Kentucky University in 2012 and during the 2013-2014 academic year as an instructor before being hired as an Assistant Professor in 2014. He has published over 30 journal articles on addiction and the neural mechanisms of maladaptive decision making and published a textbook on addiction at the end of 2022. His research has been recognized at a national level, having received three early career awards from the American Psychological Association.

Tamara O’Callaghan – Northern Kentucky University
Building a Better Book
My current research focuses on medieval manuscript design and reading practices as well as on AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) texts and narratives. I am the co-director of The Augmented Palimpsest Project, a digital humanities tool that explores how the medium of AR can be used in teaching medieval literature. This project has been funded by an NEH Digital Humanities Start-Up Grant (2014-2016).

Tan Boston – Northern Kentucky University
The NIL Glass Ceiling
Tan Boston is an assistant professor at Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law, where she teaches Sports Law, Property and Sales & Secured Transactions. In addition to teaching, Professor Boston holds multiple leadership positions, serving as Chair-elect of the Sports Law Section of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) and Chair of the DEI Committee for the Sports and Recreation Law Association (SRLA). Her academic research focuses on intercollegiate athletics, particularly its commercial and civil rights aspects. Her most recent scholarship The NIL Glass Ceiling, NIL Data Transparency, and As California Goes, So Goes the Nation: A Title IX Analysis of the Fair Pay to Play Act appear in the Louisiana Law Review, Richmond Law Review, and Stanford Journal of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, respectively.

Dirk Grupe – Northern Kentucky University
New Discoveries About a Familiar Black Hole
Dr. Dirk Grupe (“Group-ah”), Northern Kentucky University associate professor and chair of the Department of Physics, Geology and Engineering Technology. Prior to this position he has also taught at Morehead State University (Morehead, Ky.) and was a senior research associate at Penn State University, where he managed execution of the Guest Investigator program for the NASA Swift satellite mission. Dr. Grupe also was a research assistant at the Max-Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching/Germany.  He earned his doctorate in Physics, Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Göttingen.

Brittany Smith – Northern Kentucky University
Saving Moms and Babies From the Opioid Crisis
Brittany Smith joined the Department of Psychological Science in 2022. She was previously at the University of Cincinnati for 11 years, where she completed her Ph.D. in neuroscience in 2016 and postdoctoral fellowship from 2016-2022. She teaches Biopsychology, Biopsychology Lab, and Research Methods. Her interests include behavioral neuroscience, neuroimmunology, molecular neurobiology, and translational research. Her research program is focused on understanding how prenatal substance exposure shapes behavioral function later in life.
